Submission Guidelines

Before you submit to The Reader, please read on to ensure that your submission meets our requirements to be considered. Submissions do not guarantee publication.

What we want:

For The Reader

  • Book reviews (up to 300 words)
  • Poetry (submit up to 3 poems at once)
  • Any submissions with literary interest (this could be content covering local authors, local literary events, or the like, and shouldn’t exceed 250 words)

For Little Reader

  • Book reports from children (up to 18 years old, word count between 100-200 words)
  • Juvenile or young adult book recommendations from parents (100-200 words)
  • Poetry by or for children
  • Jokes (should be written originally by or for children, and should not be pulled from the internet or other sources)

Please refrain from submitting work with excessive profanity or other content unsuitable for general audiences.

How we want it:

Please direct all submissions to [email protected]. Attach submissions to your email in either PDF or .docx files. We will not be able to accept submissions in .pages file format (the default file form for Mac).

On editing:

When you submit your work, you agree that edits can be made to the copy. These edits may include excising passages, grammar and spelling corrections, and assimilations to our in-house style. These edits are made with space and clarity in mind, and will never change the intention and/or meaning of the original. You will be notified of any substantial edits. You will not be notified of simple edits.
